Fluo powers the circular economy - the Ekokuljetus Group is now Fluo

We know what you're thinking: what the heck is Fluo?

For us, upgrading the Ekokuljetus Group to the Fluo Group is making official the change that has been bubbling under the surface for quite some time.

Our old group name was born in 2017, when three waste management companies and ecological material transporters from Kokkola joined forces under the name Ekokuljetus.

Now, in 2023, we will still be transporting materials ecologically, but with the rapid growth of our group, we are doing much more than that.

Our new group name 'Fluo' means 'flow' in Latin. It reflects well our transformation into a diversified circular economy company. It also perfectly reflects our mission: to make the circular economy mainstream by increasing the recycling rate of domestic raw material streams and manufacturing recycled products.

Still 100% local service - with an even more national force

Our strength has always been in being local and multidisciplinary. Each of our units knows best how to serve customers in their respective regions. While we rely on local units with a reputation for reliable service, we also serve customers with nation-wide solutions.

The circular economy units that make up our group, Ekokuljetus JNH (Kokkola area), Finells Transport (Pedersören area), Ekoman (Vaasa area), Itä-Suomen Murskauskeskus (Joensuu), Keskinen Recycling (Kuortane) and FL Pipe (Kaustinen) are all leading players in their respective markets. As a domestic and local group, our units will continue to operate under their own names as agile circular economy partners for the residents and businesses in their areas of operation.

So from the perspective of our local customers, nothing will change except that as our national strength grows, we will be able to recycle larger material flows and provide an even more efficient service.

How Fluo is making the circular economy mainstream

We have grown from a group of individual waste management companies into a truly domestic circular economy group, operating along the entire circular economy value chain - from transporting materials to processing them and manufacturing recycled products. For us, this change is both an inspiring direction for the Group's growth and a way to build a more sustainable and climate-friendly future for society. We are particularly excited to be able to offer a 100% local and domestic alternative to participating in the circular economy, easily and effortlessly.

Our recycling facilities process more than 80 000 tonnes of commercial and industrial materials every year. Without an effective and efficient circular economy, too much of this material is burned into the air. As an integrated player, we keep the materials flowing, being able to process them into further domestic recycled plastic-based products for industry and construction.

In particular, we cover the recovery of plastic waste in a wide-ranging way. We source plastic waste nationwide, process it into recycled raw material and finally process it back into new products for industrial use.

For us, recycling and sustainability more broadly are matters of the heart that guide our everyday actions. We are proud to report that our material recovery rate is exceptionally high - almost 98%. We are also investing in sustainability through a major investment programme, including a switch from diesel to biogas vehicles, thereby reducing emissions from transport itself.

Fluo flow continues to grow and branch out around Finland

We have grown rapidly over the past three years to a company employing 120 circular economy professionals and generating a turnover of more than EUR 30 million. Our growth is underpinned by a major tidal wave of circular economy and green transition, with a turnover target of over €50 million by 2025.

We are also looking for growth in the new circular economy units that are strongest in their respective markets. Most recently, we were joined by recycled plastic processor and product manufacturer FL Pipe Oy, further strengthening our position as a leading Finnish manufacturer of recycled raw material-based plastic products. During the current year, our range of recycled products will also expand with ongoing investments.

About us

The Fluo Group was officially born in 2020, when the traditional waste management companies on the coast of Ostrobothnia merged. Fluo offers a wide range of waste management and recycling services and specialises in the reception of industrial waste plastic and the manufacture of recycled products from it. Fluo provides consumers and businesses with a convenient link from the initial waste collection to the final treatment. The group operates through six strong entities, with a turnover in 2023 of more than €30 million and employs around 120 circular economy professionals. Fluo is owned by the Finnish private equity firm Sponsor Capital and key people in the company.
